Waley was trained as a classical pianist and painter in his youth, but his first job as a teen was gigging as a bassist covering Red Hot Chili Peppers and jazz standards. He turned to film after falling in love with horror films and Fellini. He loves absurd and quirky comedy, stylized visuals, and heartful spots with a sense of warmth.

His work led shots.net’s April 2024 showcase for Unsigned Commercial Directors, and has official selections at The Berlin Commercial Festival, Shiny Awards, won for cinematography at LA Fashion Film Festival, CAAMFest, screenings at Busan International Film Festival, with press on NOWNESS Asia, Director’s Notes, Booooooom, Nakid Mag, Pitchfork, Hypebeast, Clash Magazine, and Film Shortage.
